THE AGE OF HYSTERIA

Paris, France. 1885. A young woman is committed to the Salpetrière insane asylum and placed in the care of Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot, a pioneer in the controversial new method of mesmerism to treat hysteria. Soon, she is chosen as an ideal specimen, to be hypnotized on stage before an audience of medical students, for the purpose of demonstrating the doctor’s theories about the mental state of hysterics.
